Listening to my sleep trained baby cry for an hour and a half is honestly one of the most painful experiences. All I want to do is go pop in a paci and pass out. Or pick her up and rock her to sleep. Enjoy the cuddle, as she nuzzles into my warm body. But alas I’m here watching the monitor, waiting for her to fall back asleep and trying not to cry right along with her. Meanwhile my husband sleeps peacefully next to me like nothing is happening.

Ugh - I remember that experience SO clearly with my son. There were two ideas that comforted me in those painful moments. The first was remembering that sleep is a skill, and I was teaching him something important - one of the first life lessons. And as hard as it was, remembering how important sleep is puts it in perspective. The second idea that always brought me comfort was that he wouldn't remember any of it in the morning :)

We've been there, mama! It's so hard (especially when your partner can sleep through it!). Sending our love and thoughts—you've got this! <3
